2020 Filofax Diary

AKA Number 2 on the things to do list.

I first started using a Filofax in 2012, and in the diary would just write the usual appointments but also sometimes, I would write down the everyday mundane things in a bit more detail. It might be when something I’ve listed on eBay finished, or that I bought something (and I’d sometimes hole punch and include the receipt), or maybe gone for a day out somewhere.

I’ve kept all the old diary inserts in my first Filofax (the Bond, and as I’ve said previously, never buy a bonded leather anything, you’re probably better off with pleather) and flicking through them it becomes an interesting time capsule. “Oh yeh, I’d forgotten I’d had that” I’d think. Or “Wow, I’ve had that how long now?” and “I remember going there that day!”

It’s like old photos. Someone takes a photo of a landmark somewhere busy, and decades later it’s not the landmark that you notice in the photo, it’s the old cars, the clothes people are wearing, their hair, the shops you can see, the everyday stuff that everyone takes for granted everyday because its normal and now.

I had a break from a paper diary completely in 2017, and in 2018 I bought a diary insert but only used it for a couple of months, so didn’t bother buying one for 2019. So I’ve bought one for 2020, a week on two pages for my Filofax Slim. It just fits nicely, with a bit of room for a few note pages (which I won’t use). No room for addresses, but I’ve got addresses and passwords all stored in my Personal Kendal, so no need.

I’ll put appointments in there plus I’ll note all the day to day mundanity of life itself. I use my iPhone for appointments too, why not when it’s so easy now, and it syncs to iCloud so it’s always safe.

So that’s number 2 ticked off the list from the last post. All that remains is for me to sit down most evenings and fill it in, although if you force yourself to fill it in every day it becomes a chore, so I find it best to fill it in as and when.
